Founded in 1881, Citra, Florida is an un-incorporated community Marion County. Citra, Florida is known as the “Home of the Pineapple Orange” (originally called the Hickory Orange), a name coined in 1883 because it has the aroma of a pineapple. Citra is located 16 miles north of Ocala, FL and has great fishing lakes nearby in Orange Lake as well as Lochloosa Lake, both known to produce nice sized spec.

Citra, FL is home to North Marion Middle School and North Marion High School.
